We’re expanding our team and looking for talented individuals who are passionate about advancing inclusive economic development. Both roles will work within the Insights and Innovations team at NGIN to deliver actionable insights, tools, and resources on best practices. Check out the new positions below: 
 

Advisor, Inclusive Economic Development  

About the Candidate/Qualifications: You have strong experience in community and economic development or allied fields and a firm commitment to inclusion and economic justice. You have exceptional relationship building skills, such as stakeholder engagement, peer learning models, facilitating conversations, and research. You have the ability to think both critically and creatively, generating new ideas and new ways of working. You are an excellent communicator and facilitator, with the ability to derive complex insights in partnership with a variety of audiences. You have the capacity to rapidly acquire new knowledge, the organizational and time management skills to balance multiple projects concurrently, and the ability to work as member of a team in a low-structure environment. Finally, you likely have a degree in community economic development, economics or urban planning/policy, or you may have come into the field of inclusive economic development through a more lived experience.

The following are envisioned as the main responsibilities:

  • Engage the NGIN network, particularly leaders in small and midsize cities, and undertake outreach to new stakeholders for NGIN’s cross-sectoral communities of practice

  • Identify and design opportunities to bring practitioners and stakeholders across multiple fields together for peer-to-peer learning, communities of practice, and designing innovations

  • Actively engage stakeholders in geographies where NGIN is not present to introduce NGIN, explore opportunities for collaboration, and expand the NGIN network

  • Support existing projects and initiatives by designing effective ways to share inclusive economic development insights with varied audiences such as community development practitioners, policy makers, donors, etc.

  • Curate and host virtual events, including researching session topics, speaker identification and outreach, curating the session materials, and working to establish rapport and engagement from attendees, along with other necessary tasks to ensure the event runs smoothly.

  • Co-lead the creation of content for NGIN’s biennial in-person convening aimed at leaders from small and midsize cities, including speaker identification and speaker preparation, outreach to attendees and speakers, and working closely with NGIN’s event and communication team to design and execute the convening. This includes supporting other in-person events as needed.

  • Conduct research and generate insights on a wide variety of topics through quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. Knowledge about one or more of the following topic areas is highly desired: inclusive economic structures and strategies, community development, inclusive finance, inclusive workforce and human capital development, digital inclusion, equitable small business ecosystems, inclusive technology-based economic development, and other allied fields

The position requires 5-7 trips a year for organizational meetings and events.

Analyst, Inclusive Economic Development

About the Candidate/Qualifications:

You have strong experience in community and economic development or allied fields and a firm commitment to inclusion and economic justice. This may look like undergraduate degree with 2-5 years of experience in economic development, public policy, data analysis, or a related field OR a master’s degree and 1-2 years of experience in a related field would be beneficial. You may also have come into the field of economic or community development through lived experience, community work, or non-profit work. You have the capacity to rapidly acquire new knowledge, the organizational and time management skills to balance multiple projects concurrently, and the ability to work as member of a team in a low-structure environment.

The following are envisioned as the main responsibilities for this role:

  • Desk Research and Data Analysis:

    • Conduct literature reviews and annotated bibliography

    • Collect, analyze, and interpret economic, demographic, and social data using secondary sources

    • Assist in developing metrics and indicators to measure the impact of economic development initiatives on target communities and regions

    • Assist in the development of qualitative codebooks, conduct open coding using software such as Nvivo or Taguette, and write memos detailing themes and findings

  • Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Assist in the design of outreach materials and build relationships with community organizations, businesses, government agencies, and other stakeholders as part of program outreach

    • Facilitate in-depth interviews, in-person and remote workshops and focus groups, and other qualitative data collection efforts

  • Reporting and Communication:

    • Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and visualizations to communicate findings and recommendations to internal and external audiences

    • Assist in writing detailed case studies to document the experiences, challenges, and successes of specific communities or programs

    • Synthesize qualitative data into accessible and compelling narratives for diverse audiences, including policymakers, stakeholders, and the public

  • Monitoring and Evaluation of Internal Programs:

    • Support monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities to assess the effectiveness of internal programs and initiatives

    • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate program outcomes, identify areas for improvement, and ensure alignment with equity-focused objectives

    • Support the creation of evaluation reports, including recommendations for program enhancements and scaling best practices

    • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure findings are integrated into program design, planning, and decision-making
